Welcome to My Personal Page
Thanks for visiting my page for Race for the Place, which is coming up fast next Sunday, June 4. The race is the largest annual fund-raising event for The Gathering Place, an awesome and wonderful cancer support group here in Cleveland. There are facilities on the east side and west side of the city, and the work that they do at both locations is simply amazing. The organization provides free programs and services, from support groups to yoga to cooking classes, for individuals and families who've been touched by cancer. (it's ALL free, all the time, and is completely donation-funded!)
I've been involved with The Gathering Place since 2008, when I illustrated a book written by the education coordinator: "Someone I Love Is Sick, Helping Very Young Children Cope with Cancer". I've been a huge fan of the place ever since and try to support them whenever I can. Currently, I'm painting a mural on the lobby wall of the east-side facility, and will be doing the same on the west-side soon.
So... I can't say enough about this place and all the people who work there. I never knew hearts could be so big.
The annual race is held every year on the first Sunday in June, because that is National Cancer Survivors' Day. And, I decided in the 11th hour to jump in and take part... not just because this organization is so freakin' wonderful, but because this year, I am a cancer survivor. How could I NOT take part?
But, I'm not a runner... an avid tennis player and a cyclist (used to be avid; will be again!), yes. But not a runner! Still, Race for the Place is a 5k/1-mile run, and I figured a healthy, fit cancer survivor can make it 3 miles for a good cause, so what the hell!!!
But I need some help. I jumped on the bandwagon very late, but I've pledged to raise $500 toward this year's $410,000 goal. So I'm asking friends and family to help me out. Even if you can only donate $10, it's a wonderful cause, it's fully tax deductible and you'll be inspiring me to drag myself 3.1 miles!
Please support the Race this year by making a donation. The money I raise has an immediate and direct impact on those who are living with cancer in my community, and for me, it's also very personal.
Thank you SO much for anything you can spare!
Here goes nuthin'!!!!
